The University of Brighton Academies Trust has signed up to Disability Confident, a government scheme to support equality and diversity in our staff recruitment practices.
Disability Confident is a voluntary scheme, which has been developed in partnership with disabled people’s representatives. It supports employers to recruit and retain people with disabilities and health conditions as they progress in their careers. It seeks to challenge misconceptions towards disability and employment, while also increasing understanding and awareness of mental and physical disabilities.
Under the Equality Act 2010 , disability is defined as a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.
As a Disability Confident Committed employer we:
- sign-up to the Disability Confident commitments
- undertake an activity to make a difference for people with disabilities
- offer our assurance that applicants with disabilities, who meet the minimum criteria for a post, will be given an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at interview.
It is the intention of the Trust to move to level 2 of the scheme – Disability Confident Employer – by the end of 2018.
